Privacy Policy

When you ask us to rescue a colony or join our mailing list, you're trusting us with your details. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and how to have it removed — in plain language.

This Privacy Policy explains how Soil and Hive, LLC handles the information you share with us — through this website, and in person at farmers markets, events, and our point of sale. We keep it simple: we collect only what we need to help you, we don't sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.

1 What we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us, whether online or in person:

  • Rescue-request form. Your name, phone number, email address, the property location or area where the bees are, a description of the situation, and any optional photos you attach.
  • Mailing list. The name and email address you give us when you sign up for rescue-season alerts and honey releases — either through our website or in person, for example by filling out a sign-up card at a farmers market, event, or our point of sale.
  • Text-message sign-ups. The mobile phone number you provide when you opt in to receive text messages from us — online or on an in-person sign-up card — along with a record of your consent and your message preferences.
  • Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site running and secure.
  • Analytics data. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are viewed and roughly where visitors come from. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, and includes things like your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. We use it only to improve the site.

We use analytics to understand overall trends, not to identify you personally, and this website does not use advertising trackers or sell your data to advertisers. If you'd rather not be measured, you can decline cookies in your browser or use Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. If our use of analytics ever changes, we'll update this policy first.

2 How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Respond to your rescue request and follow up with next steps;
  • Assess and plan the job, and prepare an inspection or written estimate;
  • Communicate with you about your service or your questions;
  • Send the mailing-list emails you signed up for (you can unsubscribe any time);
  • Send the text messages you opted in to receive (you can reply STOP any time).

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers below who help us operate — and only as needed to do so.

3 Where your information lives

  • Rescue requests submitted through our form are collected and processed through Netlify Forms, the platform that hosts this website, and are handled under Netlify's privacy practices.
  • Mailing-list sign-ups are collected through Netlify Forms, the platform that hosts this website, and are managed and sent through Mailchimp, our email marketing provider. Each is handled under its own privacy practices.
  • In-person sign-ups written on a sign-up card at a market, event, or point of sale are entered by us into Mailchimp so we can send you the emails or text messages you asked for. We handle the cards carefully and don't use them for anything else.
  • Text-message sign-ups are managed and sent through Mailchimp, our marketing provider, under Intuit Mailchimp's privacy policy.
  • Purchases and their related data are handled by Shopify, our online store, under Shopify's own privacy policy. We don't process or store your payment card details ourselves.
  • Website analytics are collected through Google Analytics, provided by Google, under Google's privacy policy.

4 Photos

Photos you attach to a rescue request are used for one thing: to assess your situation and plan the job. We do not use your photos in marketing, social media, or anywhere public without asking you separately and getting your permission first.

5 Text messages

If you choose to opt in to text messages from Soil and Hive, we use your mobile phone number to send you messages such as rescue-season alerts, honey releases, product news, tastings and events, and occasional promotions. Here's how it works:

  • Consent. We only text you if you've given us your express consent to receive text messages — for example by opting in online, or by choosing text messages and writing in your mobile number on a sign-up card at a market, event, or point of sale. Giving us only your email address does not sign you up for texts. Consent isn't a condition of any purchase or service, and we keep a record of when and how you opted in.
  • Frequency and cost. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.
  • Opting out. Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe at any time. You'll receive one final message confirming you've been unsubscribed, and we won't text you again unless you opt back in. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at info@soilandhive.com or (971) 245-4281.
  • How your number is handled. Your phone number and opt-in information are stored and processed by Mailchimp, our text-messaging provider, only so they can deliver our messages on our behalf.
  • No sharing for marketing. We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or text-messaging opt-in data and consent with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. This information is never shared except with the service providers who help us deliver our messages.

Phone numbers you give us through the rescue-request form are used only to contact you about your request — we won't add them to our marketing text list unless you separately opt in. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. The full messaging terms are in the Text messages section of our Terms of Service.

6 Retention, access, and deletion

We keep the information you send only as long as we reasonably need it — to respond to your request, carry out any work, and keep our records. You're always in control of your details:

  • You can ask us what information we have about you;
  • You can ask us to correct anything that's wrong;
  • You can ask us to delete your information.

Just email info@soilandhive.com and we'll take care of it. To unsubscribe from the mailing list, use the link in any email or email us and we'll remove you.

7 Children's privacy

This website is meant for adults arranging bee rescue or buying honey. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, please email us and we'll delete it.

8 Changes and contact

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the effective date shown at the top of this page and post the updated version here. If the changes are significant, we'll do our best to make that clear.
